Karura and Martin Luther claim mini-cricket titles
Karura Forest and Martin Luther primary schools claimed Nairobi mini-cricket titles in the boy’s and girl’s categories respectively. The 24-team tournament drew participation from 12 schools each represented by two teams.
Defending champions Karura Forest boy’s team ensured they retained the title they won last July thanks largely to the tournament’s best batsman John Senteu, who had a good run with the bat scoring 71 runs from five innings to propel his team to another mini-cricket crown.
Karura Forest overcame a hardworking Highridge team that had shown great determination of lifting the championship themselves. Karura scored 55 from their six overs before bowling out Highridge for 30 runs to register a 25-run victory. Senteu, Ken Odongo, Geoffrey Onyango and Teddy Amulega all picked a wicket each to derail Highridge’s reply.
In the girl’s category, Martin Luther downed Karura Forest’s girl’s team by 4 wickets. Martin Luther won the toss and chose to field with Wilkister Diana (2/8) and Angeline Wangui (2/13) restricting Karura to 44 for the loss 6 wickets.
Martin Luther’s reply was clinical despite the late order batters making hard work of Karura’s total. Diana (12) and Venessa Adhiambo (10) scored comfortably early on, with Vivian Moraa supporting their course with a valuable 11 batting at position three. Karura’s Lilian Njeri picked 2 for 12 but her efforts failed to stop Martin Luther girl’s team match to the title.
