Winning start for Kenya sides in junior tournament

Kenya junior sides began the quadrangular Twenty20 tournament with resounding wins at Nairobi Club and Nairobi Jafferys.

The U15 team beat Uganda and ICC GCA while the U19 side was winner over Tanzania. At Nairobi Club Kenya U15 beat ICC GCA U15 by 66 runs before beating Uganda by 7 runs in the last over of an entertaining match.

Man of the match Sachin Bhudia bowled a maiden last over to give Kenya their second win after Ugandan’s looked set to surpass Kenya’s target of 94. With eight needed of the last over, Bhudia conceded no run in his first balls and later picked a wicket on the last ball to steer Kenya to victory.

All this time Uganda’s top scorer Sirage Nsubuga (32) was left stranded on the non striker’s side. Bhudia picked five wickets for 11 runs to steer Kenya U15 to victory after Ugandan bowlers had proved tough on the Kenyans with their pace. Bhudia had top scored with unbeaten 30 from 28 balls. Shyam Rabadia added on 28 from 38.

In the first match, Kenya juniors proved tough for the ICC GCA, bowling them out for 59 for their pursuit of 125.

Michael Cunnington was the main destroyer with 3 for 6.

Akhil Boddu had top scored for Kenya U15 with 44 off 50 balls. Yagnik Pindoria made 38 runs as Kenya U15 lost only four wickets.

At Nairobi Jafferys Kenya U19 were once again their supreme in the region beating Tanzania U19 by 8 wickets.

After electing to bat, Tanzania U19 could only make 54 thanks to 3 wickets from Kirtan Patel. Dhiren Gondaria chipped in with 2 for 7.

In reply Kenya U19 lost Gurdeep Singh from the first ball but Gondaria who was unbeaten on 34 and Hamza Malik made 35 for the second wicket before Malik was caught and bowled by Athumani Siwa on 19.

Subham Patel made unbeaten one as Kenya U19 ended the match with 6 overs to spare. In the second match at the venue, Uganda U19 (127 for 6) beat ICC GCA U19 (99 for 5) by 28 runs.
