South Africa bat Kenya 19s out of opening World Cup contest

Kenya conceded 341 for seven to South Africa Under-19s before going down by a margin of 169 runs in their opening Group A encounter at Lincoln Green ground in Christchurch, New Zealand on Sunday 14th January.

The total was anchored by SA captain Raynard van Tonder who scored 143 off 121 balls and was assisted by opener Jiveshan Pillay (62 off 67 balls) as the team practically batted the Kenyans out of the contest.

Kenya were never in the chase with a required 6.84 runs per over being steep and finally ended on 172 for seven in their allotted 50 overs after being reduced to 50 for four at the start of the 20th over.

Jasraj Kundi, was Kenya's best bowler with 2 for 49 off his 10 overs and entered the fray with Kenya at 98 runs for six in the 34th over and made a magnificent 41 off just 53 balls including five fours to help Kenya to 172 by the conclusion of the match, he was ably assisted by Ankit Hirani 35 not out from 58 deliveries.

Kenya plays New Zealand in their next match on Wednesday 17th January at Hagley Oval in Christchurch from (00:30 am, Kenyan time).
