Queentor Aoko produced a gem of an inning to help Kenya women secure yet another victory over the visiting UK Armed Forces women team by 72 runs at Sikh Union Club in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Aoko’s 99-ball 98 was perfectly delivered on a day when Kenya women looked short of batters with dependable players; Sarah Bhakita, Sharon Juma and Margaret Banja all missing from the line-up. She played brilliantly through the line dispatching 14 fours in the process.

Aoko was involved in two over-half a century partnerships, the first with fellow opener Mary Wambui (21), whom they contributed 68 runs together, before she combined with Brenda Mogusu (18) for a 74-run third wicket partnership.

Kirsty Gavillet then broke the Kenyans heart when she trapped Aoko leg before two runs short of her maiden century. She looked in no trouble whatsoever in her inning until that mistake on 98 put a stop to her progress.

Thereafter, Esther Wangari (37) and Faith Mwende (26) combined for a 54-run sixth wicket partnership that propelled Kenya to a healthy 232 for six. Both batters perished in a space of four runs from each other at 232 and 236 with Mwende the first to depart cleaned up by Lou Worsfold and Wangari being dismissed by Shivanie Patel in a similar manner.

The Armed Forces team never got their inning going to conclude at 168 for nine as wickets got shared two-a-piece by Mako Wako (2/22), Aoko and Wambui  both returning (2/32).
