A captain’s inning from Margaret Banja (33) and a late onslaught by the returning Sharon Juma (32) proved enough for Kenya women to beat the visiting United Kingdom Armed Forces (UKAF) team by six wickets with 31 balls to spare at Nairobi’s Sikh Union Club on Monday.

Kenya who won the toss and opted to field first allowed the British side to put up 121 for the loss four wickets in their allotted 20 overs, thanks largely to a 60-ball 73 from opener L.C. Worsfold and some lacklustre fielding display from the hosts.

However, in reply Kenya came out guns blazing with both openers Banja and Sarah Bhakita going after the new ball, Banja particularly finding the fence with ease in a cameo 21-ball inning that included five boundaries and a maximum. She shared an opening stand of 48 off just 4.5 overs with Bhakita (12) before the latter lost her wicket to H.M Garton. Banja fell in a similar style to seamer S. Patel three runs later.

Kenya lost further wickets of Jane Achieng and Queentor Aoko for nought and five runs respectively before, Juma combined with Mary Wambui to take the hosts home without further damage, Juma was the aggressor of the two forcing the issue in her-22 ball blast that her find the boundaries on five occasions. Wambui played her part with positive looking 28 that included 4 fours. The teams meet again at the same venue in a 40-over encounter on Tuesday 26th September, 2017.
