Rakep Patel’s continued with his sparkling form to lift Kenya to their second win and a top the group C table – another first for the East African side, in the ongoing Africa T20 Cup at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley.

With just a single fixture remaining between the horn of Africa nation and bottom of the table KwaZulu-Natal, Kenya stand a real chance of advancing from their group as table toppers for the semi-finals of the event to be held in a fortnight.

Patel’s conjured up a magnificent 72 not out off 47 balls including six boundaries and four maximums. He shared a 50-run partnership with Gurdeep Singh 33, the latter weighing in with a couple of boundaries and a six as the Kenyans rebuilt their innings from 38 for 4 from 6.4 overs.

Kenya who had chased down an imposing total against Free State the previous day began poorly yet again with openers Irfan Karim and Alex Obanda combining for just four runs between them. Dhiren Gondaria showed cglimpses of brilliance for his 16-ball 15 but he fell run out to a combination of Mohale and Peterson. But skipper Patel had other ideas as he condemned the Northern Cape side to a first loss in the series.
