Kenya ladies seek T20 World Cup lift-off in the African qualifiers

Kenya has named a 14-woman team for the ICC Africa Women World Twenty20 Qualifiers slated for September 8 to 17, 2017 at Wanderers and Affies Park in Windhoek, Namibia.

The tournament, whose winner qualifies for the International Cricket Council T20 Global World Cup qualifiers due in 2018, drew five countries including defending champions Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Uganda and hosts Namibia.


Kenya will open their campaign today at 14:45 local time against Tanzania, before taking on Uganda on Sunday September 10, at 11:00 local time, that will be followed by a fixture against Zimbabwe on Tuesday September, 12 and Namibia on Wednesday September, 13 both at 11:00 local time to complete their group stage assignments prior to the play offs.


The team, under the tutelage of Coach Lameck Onyango will be out to improve on Kenya’s performance at the last qualifiers where they finished second behind winners Zimbabwe in the last edition of the championships held in Harare in April, 2016.


The team comprises Margaret Banja (captain), Sarah Bhakita, Sylvia Kinyua, Jane Achieng, Mary Wambui, Ruth Ambiyo, Edith Wanjiru, Flavia Atieno, Faith Mwende, Veronica Abuga, Alice Muoki, Esther Wangari, Queentor Aoko and Venessa Adhiambo.
