Ambiyo stars as Flamingos seek to defend National Ladies Championship

Ruth Ambiyo starred with both bat and ball as the defending champions Rift Flamingos got their campaign to the best possible start beating last year’s runners up Chania Sharks by 9 wickets in a one-sided encounter at the Starehe Boys Centre last Sunday.

Ambiyo who notched up 24 not out in a chase of 60 set by the Sharks, had earlier on accounted for the wicket of the dangerous Veronica Abuga for nought to restrict the opponents to a lowly total.

In another encounter, Rift Hawks got the better of Nairobi Eves by a narrow 6 runs. The Hawks never got going in their innings thanks largely to Veronica Abuga’s 3 for 8 off 2 overs to restrict them to 76 runs before Gloria Kikobye’s removed both openers to stifle  Eve’s chase and despite Sylvia Kinyua’s 23 not out, the Hawks still ran out winners by half a dozen runs.

This event has seen a number of ladies emanate from the program to join up with the National Under-19 and Senior Women’s squad in the recent past and features the best 60 players drawn from Cricket Kenya’s ladies leagues in both Nakuru and Nairobi counties.
