Arya Primary School Nairobi boys and girls team achieve the double.

Arya primary School boys and girls team completed a double by wining the Nairobi County West zone Mini Cricket Tournament in both categories.West Zone held its first Mini Cricket tournament of 2017 on Saturday 11/3/2017 at the Highridge Primary School.A total of 7 schools participated in the tournament in both the categories i.e. boys and girls.
Aga Khan Primary School , Arya Primary School, City Primary School ,Parklands Primary School, Muranga Road Primary and hosts Highridge Primary School entered 2 teams. All these schools were represented in both categories.
All the participating schools played each other in round robin format.
Defending Champions Arya Primary Sch once again made it to the finals by beating City Primary School in the first semi final and Park Road Primary School beat Highridge Primary School in the other Semi Final to set up a clash with Arya Primary School ln the Finals.
Arya P School won the toss opted to bowl first against Park road Pri School. Vinod Haresh opened the bowling for Arya Pri School and straight away picked up the wicket of Jared Otieno caught behind off the second ball of the match and again picked up his second wicket by having Zakariah Dahir clean bowled for a duck with the team score yet to get off the mark .At the end of the first over Parkroad Pri School were 0/2.
Joel Mburu (15 n.o.) the most consistent batter of Parkroad Pri School steadied the innings with Teddy Opiyo(5) and later with Elvis Onkoba(9n.o.) to post a total of 32 runs in their allotted 5 overs.
Arya Pri School started their innings steadily with Vinod Haresh and Raj Manji playing cautiously before V Haresh was caught by Glen Wallace off the bowling of Tedd Opiyo for 7 .Azan Ali joined Manji and finished the game surpassing the total of 32 runs posted by Park Road Primary hence winning by 7 wickets and 2 balls to spare. Both the batsman were unbeaten on 11 runs .
The Girls category had the same number of teams as the boys.
City Primary met Park Road Primary in semi final 1 with Arya Primary (Girls) battled it out against Highridge Primary School in the second semi final.
City Primary beat Park Road Primary ad Arya Primary overcame Highridge Primary in the other sem final to give Arya Primary School a chance to complete the double..
Arya won the toss n opted to bowl first.Highridge were straight away put on the backfoot by the Arya Girls.Tight overs bowled by Morna Lisa(1/7},Milka David(2/6) and Natasha David(1/5) restricted Highridge girls to post a total of 33/5 in their 5 overs.Notable contributions for Highridge came from the bat of Grace Muthoni ((12) and Jessica Wambui (10).
Arya girls made lighwork of Highridge’s total by scoring 35 with loss of 1 wkt qnd 1 over to spare.Grace Idaiya (13 n.o),Milka David (11) and Cynthia Kefa 9n.o carried the day for Arya girls to win the trophy n complete the double..
Action moves to the Coast this weekend where Mombasa Mainland Schools will battle it out at the Coast Gymkhana Sports Club as from 8.30 am.
MM Shah Primary School will be defending their titlein the boys category whilst Junda Academy will be defending their crown in the girls category.
