Mount Kenya University (MKU) lost their 100 percent record when they went down to Africa Nazarene University by 29 runs in a hotly contested encounter at the Ruaraka Sports Club on Saturday in Cricket Kenya’s –Kenya University Sports Association (Nairobi Conference) Twenty20 League 2015-16.

Batting first after being sent in by the table-toppers Nazarene weathered the early storm finding themselves 4 down for 52 before a 31-run partnership between the match’s top scorer Pravin Kumar (20) and Edwin Kinyua (6) moved the scores to 83 before Kumar was run out by the impressive Samuel Kariuki. A combination between makeshift wicket-keeper David Neepe and Francis Wanyonyi ended Kinyua’s stay at the wicket to rock the boat for Nazarene.

Nazarene’s found themselves at 89 for 6 with 12 overs gone before Paps Marley (9) and Pinney Wambua (6) helped them post 107 at the end of their allotted overs.

In reply, Nazarene restricted the hosts by some accurate bowling and good catching that ensured all chances that the batsmen took ended in dismissals to first reduce the Thika-based side to 35 for 5 inside 7 overs and then kept the lower order batsmen quiet to close the innings at 78 for 8.

Elsewhere at the Sir Ali Muslim Club, title favourites United States International University (USIU) beat the hapless Co-operative University by 122 runs. Winning the toss and opting to bat USIU posted 189 off their 20 overs before bowling out Co-operative University for 67 all out in 15 overs.

The league continues at this weekend with JKUAT hosting St. Paul’s at Ruaraka while Multi Media and Kenyatta University squaring off at Sir Ali Club
