Tanzania Women team held on for a tensed four-run win over Kenya in the ICC Africa Senior Women T20 Championships at University of Dar es Salaam yesterday.
The hosts defended their 84 as Kenya batting once again failed to finish up on their good start on the field.
A 34 runs partnership between Mercy Adhiambo (12) and Sharon Juma (20) and Margaret Banja’s 29 took Kenya to the brink of victory, but Banja’s wicket fell off the last ball of the penultimate over as Kenya made 80 for 9
Mwanaidi Ibrahim took 3-13 for the victorious hosts, who just held on under intense pressure.
Earlier, Hadija Nasibu (17) and Mwanaidi Swedi (10) up an impressive total for the home team with a fifth wicket stand of 30 runs that got their scores to 76.
Tanzania was reeling at 20 for 3 in 6 overs but the two rescued them. Adhiambo’s 3-10 and Emily Ruto’s 2-24 were part of a losing effort for Kenya side which had lost by nine runs to Uganda on the opening day of the five teams’ event
