Defending champions Oshwal Academy A opened their defence of their Nairobi boys secondary schools league title by defeating Al Madrasa School by 92 runs in a match played the Eastleigh High School on Saturday.

Opener Hamza Malik scored an unbeaten 130 runs to anchor his teams innings to a formidable total of 210 off the allotted 20 overs. Malik began the onslaught from the opening over when he found the boundary on the off side with a straight drive, he then combined well with Goswami 30 for the for a fourth wicket stand of 67 to steer his side to the huge total.

Abbas Khanbhai tried to halt the momentum with 2 wickets for 43 runs by dismissing fellow opener Priv Patel (5) and Rajesh Khetiya (8) whom were stumped and caught behind respectively.  His efforts were the only positives for an otherwise outplayed Al Madrasa team.

In reply, Hussein Karimjee’s 63 runs kept Al Madrasa’s interest in the match in a subdued reply thanks to the combination of Kirtan Patel and Priv Patel who got a brace of wickets each.  Kirtan cleaned up opener Hussein Barood (8) in the fourth over of the match while Priv picked Karimjee’s wicket caught by Rajesh Khetiya at mid-wicket.

Hussein Akbharali scored 15 runs in the middle of the order to assist Al Madrasa past 100 runs but then fell victim to Goswami when he seemed set to make a bigger score. He lost his middle stump and with it his teams hope of picking up any points in the match.

They ended up on 118 off 20 overs, giving Oshwal the much-needed points in their title chase and a first win in the six team group.

Elsewhere there were wins for Arya Vedic, Shree Cutchi Leva B and Eastleigh High School.
